How it works & what you will need
Adding a pet to your home is a big decision and commitment. Before visiting, consider your lifestyle, time, finances, housing, other pets, and the ongoing needs of a new companion, including routine and emergency veterinary care.
We’re here to help you find a pet who is a good fit for your household.
Adoption Hours
Thursday & Friday: 2:00–7:00 PM
Saturday & Sunday: 12:00–5:00 PM
All adoptable animals are listed on our website under Adopt. We encourage you to visit the shelter and meet the animal you’re interested in.
The Adoption Process
Visit the shelter during adoption hours and meet the animal you’re interested in. A staff member will assist with meet-and-greets.
Complete an adoption questionnaire so we can learn more about your household and lifestyle.
Choose how you’d like to proceed:
Adopt: If you’re ready, you may complete the adoption and take your new pet home the same day.
Place a hold: A non-refundable 24-hour hold deposit may be placed in person only. Holds are honored Thursday through Saturday. We do not place adoption holds on Sundays.
Complete the adoption: Please allow approximately 30–40 minutes for paperwork, a review of the pet’s medical information, and transfer of ownership. Wait times may increase depending on shelter traffic adoptionand on busy days. The last adoption of the day begins 30 minutes before closing.
If you rent or do not own your home, please confirm that pets are permitted and review any applicable restrictions before adoption. Adoption fees are non-refundable.
What to Bring
Valid photo ID
Valid email address and phone number – this is required to register your microchip and to receive post-adoption training follow-up and communication from Petcademy.
Payment: cash, debit, credit card, or check
A 3.5% processing fee applies to card payments.Dogs: Must leave the shelter on a leash and collar. You may bring your own or purchase them at adoption.
Cats: Must leave the shelter in a secure carrier. You may bring your own or purchase one at adoption.
All adopters must be 18 years or older.

Our Adoption Commitment
Crossroads Animal Shelter reserves the right to deny an adoption. Our priority is the safety and well-being of the animals in our care and finding an appropriate match between each pet and their adopter. Adoption decisions are made in the best interest of the animal and are final.
