Adoption process:
How it works & what you will need

As you consider adding a pet to your home, take time to evaluate your lifestyle. How much time can you dedicate to a pet, including acclimation to your home and other pets, socialization, training, exercise, and veterinary care? All financial situations are unique, and every animal will eventually need veterinary care, whether routine or emergency. Please take time to envision what this big picture looks like for you.

Adding a new pet to your home is a big decision and commitment.

We want to help you select a companion that is best for your lifestyle. All of our adoptable animals are available on the website under the adoption tab. Once you’re ready to adopt, our adoption staff will work with you to find the fit

To prepare for your visit, you can expect the following.

Your First Step Toward Adoption

We’re excited to help you find your perfect companion! Your first step is to visit the shelter and spend time with the dog or cat you’re interested in. We kindly ask that all minor children under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult at all times during your visit.

A staff member will assist you by removing the animal from their enclosure and setting up a meet-and-greet in one of our visitation areas.

Once you’ve met a potential match—or even if you’re still deciding—you’ll be asked to complete an adoption questionnaire. This form helps our team better understand your household, lifestyle, and preferences to ensure a great fit.

After completing your visit and questionnaire, you have two options:

·       You may place a non-refundable 24-hour hold deposit if you need a bit more time to prepare. (Holds are available Wednesday through Saturday only; no holds are placed on Sundays.)

·       You may move forward with the adoption, and your selected pet can go home with you the same day.

If you rent, please be familiar with your lease agreement and any pet restrictions. Alternatively, the property owner must be present to complete the adoption. Adoption fees are non-refundable.

Please allow 30–60 minutes to complete the adoption process, which includes paperwork, a review of your pet’s medical summary, and the official transfer of ownership. Wait times may vary depending on the day; weekends tend to be busier.
