We adopted a male cat Ziggy (aka Rio) in March 2017. The transition was smooth and easy! Ziggy loves people, he talks to us and loves sitting in anyone’s lap. I could not have had a better experience with pet adoption. It’s like he has been a part of our family forever. We love him so much! ? – Caitlin Thorpe

I adopted a beagle-basset mix, Zippy (now known as Millie) from your shelter in May, 2008. She was 4 years old at the time, and had been surrendered by a very loving family. She came complete with a long list of likes and dislikes written out by her first Mom. I wish every day that I had a way to let that Mom know that Millie is living a happy life, and that she is loved very much. She has shared our home with two other pups (a rat terrier/Chihuahua mix brother and another beagle-basset mix sister); and the three of them have made quite a team. But Millie’s first love is all the little kids. Every time we see kids outside or on our walks, her tail goes crazy; and she does everything within her power to convey to the kids that she is friendly and really, really wants a hug. Often times, they are more than happy to comply. And after some hugs and kisses, Millie is the happiest dog on the planet. She is slowing down a bit now, but still loves her walks and treats…and the kids. And she pretty much runs the household. We love her, and we are grateful to her first family who gave her an incredible start, and to your shelter who did a fantastic job of matching us with her. Keep up the great work! – Linda Riesgraf

We just had our dog Frank put to sleep today 11/10/15. We got Frank from you back in ’04 and I just wanted to let you know what a great dog he was. We originally came to Crossroads to check out another dog, but he wasn’t what we were looking for. As we were leaving one of the people who worked there said to me ” I think I have a dog you might like. She took me back and showed me Frank. I took him out on a leash and it was like someone taught him to heal. Something in me was attracted to him from the moment I saw him. The feeling was mutual. I bent down to pet him and he closed his eyes, put his head in my chest and said “I’m going home with you!!” Needless to say We loved him dearly. He was always by my side and for both of us everything was right in the world when he had his head in my chest. My wife and I are going to really miss him, and if there’s a place they go after they leave us, I just pray that God would hold him like I did. – Rocky

We had been looking for a new pet for quite awhile but having no luck. On Saturday August 29, 2015 we were driving thru Buffalo and my daughter was online and came across your small dogs available. We decided to just stop in. Two hours later, our whole family had met and spent time with Buddy, the Chihuahua. We ended up taking him home and he has been such an added joy to our home. He loves to go on walks with us and he has 32 toys already and he brings them all to us whenever we get home or are just at home. He is so well trained and gives us so much love. It is as if he has been with us forever. We absolutely love him. – Carlson Family

We adopted Natasha last November 27. She fits into our home beautifully. We truly love her. We have managed to help her lose a little weight…was 12.4 when we got her and she’s now down to 11.3. She does try to beg for more and watches me closely when I’m in the kitchen near the pantry. I feel so bad for the family that lost her as she’s such a dear kitty and obviously was loved a lot. Thank you so much for caring for her those 4 months she was at your shelter. –

It’s been almost a year since we adopted our cat Marv (formerly Adam) and we have fallen in love with him! He’s great with our kids and the perfect addition to our family; adopting was the best decision it gave us a chance to give back and receive a great cat! – Amanda Holthaus

We adopted Loki just about a month ago! His new name is Tucker and he responds really well to that. He now resides in Michigan with his mom (me) and his 1 year old black lab brother, Charlie. His dad is working in Minnesota still but sees Tucker as often as he can! Tucker has 5 acres of yard to play in and loves being outside with his brother. Tucker loves the snow too! He is such a good pup! When we got him he was constantly using the carpet as his bathroom but now very rarely has accidents! We are excited to see what Tucker thinks of the pond this summer. We cannot wait to watch Tucker and Charlie grow up together and become best friends! – Samantha

In 2001 After pestering my parents for a year they decided to let me get a dog. I got on Petfinder.com and found a handsome big brown 10month old mutt who was being fostered through your shelter. His name was Tigger which fit him perfectly(loved to boounce) so I kept it. I was 14 at the time. Him and I had 13 great years together. He has been with me throughout some really great and really tough times. Throughout highschool akwardness and breakups, moving to Louisiana, getting married(he was in our ceremony and enjoyed dinner with everyone) having a baby, and everything along the way. I had to make the toughest decision of my life today, letting him go. He had been struggling with spleen cancer and debilitating arthritis. When I adopted him so long ago I never thought about the moment I might have to decide his fate. But I just want to thank everyone who was a part of getting him into my life, he was the best friend a girl could ask for. – Lisa-Marie Gilmer

I am the person who adopted Lilly from Crossroads a few months ago, and the joy that she has brought to my family and myself has been amazing! She is very outgoing and curious and gets into a lot of things, but we do not mind that! We just know we cannot leave any glasses or breakables out! haha! We lover her so much and I just wanted you to know she has a forever home with unlimited love ! ? – Jen

Hi! Almost 2 weeks ago, we adopted Lilly the cat from Crossroads. I wanted to let you know that she is doing well. She was extremely shy and scared at first, but she now comes out of the bathroom at night and sits on our laps and snuggles. She is used to her new housemate, Sam the Cockapoo. He is still king of the couch, but she gets comfortable on the Lazy Boy with Dalton, her loving owner. We get to pick her up and hold her now. She is a kind and gentle, quiet cat that we were looking for to fit into our family. We are very happy that we adopted her and look forward to many happy years with her! – Angelica Orr

We adopted Bear on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013. She is now known as Shoshoni, Shoni for short, and is the most beautiful and wonderful kitty ever. She has settled right in, and is so affectionate and mellow. We have several sliding glass doors and she loves sitting in the ground level door watching the world. She is a purring machine and we love her to pieces!! Thanks for taking good care of her until we found her. Shoni’s Mom and Dad P.S. Shoshoni will make a donation very soon

It’s been almost a year since my fiancé adopted Georgette, who we affectionately renamed Sunshine. Jonathon was looking for a sweet lap kitty who he could love on. Jonathon had been diagnosed with a reoccurrence of his brain cancer. Jonathon and Sunshine were an inseparable pair, and nobody could make that kitty melt like Jonathon did. I’m saddened to say that Jonathon passed away in April and Sunshine and I mourned him with equal sadness. It took some time, but Sunshine and I have become the best of friends (as she climbs into my lap.) Not only was Sunshine a great comfort to Jonathon, but she has brought many smiles to my face on bad days. Thank you for everything you do, and finding great homes for the animals in your care. – Laura Schumacher

I just wanted to give an update on Nann (formerly Buttercream) when I found her at the end of May this year I couldn’t imagine that she’d become the integral part of our family that she has. She’s doing so well with our two other cats and she’s such a little baby. She’s taken to curling up with members of the family UNDER the covers and I can’t imagine a sweeter cat. I’ve attached a picture so you can see how she’s grown since coming here and how well her eye has healed up! Thank you all so much for the hard work you put into running Crossroads, I truly admire everything you do. – Abbie Nelson

Hi, im giving you a update on how aggie’s doing? She really got adapted to her new home fast. She like’s to play with her squeeky mouse. And she loves to get brushed her belly. And all over. And she love’s lap’s.And attention. No dull moment with aggie around she follows me everywhere. In the bathroom I won’t shut the door all the way but she will push it open with her head. And come right in.And see if im in there then she walks out.She sits by the door waiting for me to come home from work.I really think she likes her new home. – Angela Smith

Last month we were somehow directed to Crossroads Shelter and that’s where we found Autumn! Our intention was to go to the Buffalo Animal Humane Society down the road, but pulled into the parking lot of Crossroads instead. Autumn (whose name has been changed to Abbie) is a beautiful little dog and so well behaved! She has brought so much joy to our lives and all those who come in contact with her, love her – even self-proclaimed non-dog people! We believe she is very content in her new home and knows she is loved! Thanks for all that you do for these homeless animals! – Nancy and Kevin Ament

Today is the 8th anniversary of Rex’s adoption from Crossroads. He’s now around 10 years old, is getting a little grey around the snout, and has slowed down a bit but is still healthy and looks forward to our long walks. Thanks again for giving him a second chance and keep up the good work! – Jeff

Gus is doing well. He has been renamed Gromit and he has really come out of his shell. He’s a very playful youngster and we’re enjoying having him in the house. He’s in good shape and gained a little weight from building muscle. We’ve started obedience class and are having lots of good walks. House breaking is going well, he’s only had the occasional accident. He now understands sit, down, and stay.. He is having fun with his toys and can entertain himself and us by playing with two tennis balls. He’s doing well with guests in the house and our neighbor’s kids. He’s getting used to the idea of a bath. Now that he can sit, stay and wear his life jacket for a bit, we’ll see how he does in the canoe. Today he had to learn that socks on the drying rack are not toys, but he did have fun distributing them about the house. He definitely has Beagle since he sounds like one when he’s vocal. – Charlie, Nancy & Gromit

Cash plays in the water, he will not leave the tub, till he get’s to play. One day he sat there for 10 min, so I finally turned on the water, and he played in it for 15 min. He insists on playing in the bath tub with the water running. What a awesome boy! Its hard to believe, it is going to be a year, since we adopted Cash from your Shelter. He has been the most entertaining addition to our home. His newest behavior is sitting on the stool at the counter, and watch you in the kitchen. We just love him soooooo much!!! – Amy

We have 3 cats but these 2, we’ve adopted. Beau is the biggest teddy bear..and I mean big. He’s 14.5 lbs. And Tellie (short for Telecaster (guitars)), is a little girl with a bit of attitude, but her and Beau always snuggle together. ? Thank you! We enjoy them both..and they both are very spoiled. – Michelle

I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know how our new baby is doing. Charlie (formerly known as Hunter) is absolutely wonderful!! He is such a wonderful fit for our family. He LOVES sleeping on the bathroom counter and onto of anything cushy. He’s what I call a cush hound. Anyways, here are a few pictures of him that I thought you might enjoy. He LOVES playing in water as you can see from the toilet picture. Thanks for everything! – Kathy
